Committers who've attended ApacheCon have often remarked that the most valuable part of the experience was the opportunity to meet face-to-face with other Apache folk, and to cross-pollinate with different projects. The Retreat is designed to provide maximum opportunity for that kind of cross-pollination, but to be successful, we need projects to get behind it and committers to sign up! At a recent Bay Area hackathon for just two projects, the Traffic Server podling finalized the issues that were blocking their first ASF release, got a working version running on OS X, and cross-signed GPG keys. HTTPD project members pushed their latest release out to the mirrors, and worked on community-building, including electing some new committers & PMC members. If you're not yet registered, visit http://apache.eventbrite.com/ to sign up. Let others in your project know what you'd like to work on, and contact other projects if you're interested in working with them while you're there :-) If financial concerns are putting anyone off, assistance is available. Visit http://www.apache.org/travel/index.html for more information and to apply - the deadline has been EXTENDED, to February 8th 2010. Looking forward to seeing you in April!
