Stephan,
  Don't know about keeping the exact formatting, but you can get pretty
printing on the output. Create an XmlOptions object, call
setSavePrettyPrint() on it, and pass it in when you save the file.
There's a bunch of other stuff in XmlOptions that might help, but I
haven't tried. See the JavaDocs for more info.

Hope this helps,
BKR

Have you tried org.apache.xmlbeans.impl.tool.PrettyPrinter?
You can also checkout the example by executing the xpretty.cmd script

Subject: Keep linebreaks in XML

Hello,

I am reading astruts-config and modifying it via XMLBeans.
        <action path="MyNewPath"
            type="com.versata.vstruts.struts.action.VLSLogonAction"
            validate="false"
            unknown="false"
            name="beanLogonForm"
            attribute="beanLogonForm" scope="request">
            <description>Hallo Welt</description>
            <!--  SKL -->
            <forward path="/loginError.jsp"
            name="failure" contextRelative="false" redirect="false"/>

After my code saves the xml, all formatting linebreaks are gone. Is
there any chance to keep them ??

Thanks SKL
