I'm pretty stumped here.  Your files worked fine on my system.  The only
things that I can think of are to look at your CLASSPATH for other
versions of some of the classes, change your file.encoding system
property to Cp1252 like here in the US, or write a little java program
to create a Writer for UTF-8 and write out a string to see if it
encodes.

I'm not sure what this information will mean.  I'll have to think about
this some more tomorrow.
