Hi all,

Each month, the ASF Board has its regular meeting for conducting ASF
business. Since there is usually quite a delay between that meeting and
when the official minutes are approved/published, I like to send this
summary of activity so that people remain informed of what is going on.
Especially in terms of how it may affect your activities here at the ASF.

* The Board approved the formation of the Public Relations Committee
(PRC). This new committee replaces the Fundraising Committee and also
rolls in the responsibility and management of our press activities,
public relations, and management of our web sites. The intent is to
present a coherent message to the press, our sponsors, and all
interested parties. This new committee is chaired by Brian Fitzpatrick.

* Updated Contribute License Agreements (CLAs) were approved for both
individuals and corporations. These should be posted to the licensing
section of our website shortly (http://www.apache.org/licenses/)

* The Jakarta PMC Chair is now held by Henri Yandell, as Geir has moved
over to chair the new Geronimo PMC.

* The Cocoon PMC Chair also switched over to Sylvain Wallez, after Steven
decided to step down. Steven and Geir are both part of the new PRC, too.

* SpamAssassin has graduated out of the Incubator into its own, new
top-level project (TLP), chaired by Daniel Quinlan. This was finally
made possible now that Network Associates officially transferred
ownership of the SA trademarks to the ASF. We had been worried that we
might have to change the name of the project (oof!), but that is no
longer the case. The ASF is now the proud owner of the fantastic
SpamAssassin brand and the codebase. The SA team is on the verge of
releasing a long overdue 3.0 release.

* XMLBeans has also graduated out the Incubator into a TLP. XMLBeans
provides a simplified model for interacting with XML documents. The
project originated with a contribution from BEA, but after its time
within the Incubator, it is now a full-fledged Apache community and
codebase. Cliff Schmidt is the Chair of the new Apache XMLBeans PMC.

That is it for this month. As always, please feel free to discuss this on
community@apache.org. You can also send myself or any other ASF officer an
email with your questions, comments, or concerns.
