Shane,

"ln -s <source file> [link name]"

So to link a file in another directory to this one:

ln -s source/prog.1.0.0.tar.gz

will create a link called "prog.1.0.0.tar.gz" in the
working directory that points to the same file in
the source sub-directory.

ln -s prog.1.0.0.tar.gz prog-current-tar.gz

will create a link called prog-current-tar.gz in
the current directory.

"man ln" will give you some more detail.
