The XML you are looking at isn't the documentation, its the sources for the
documentation. If you pick up the binary distribution rather than the
sources you will find the documentation already compiled into HTML. The XML
is meant to be usable to generate documentation in several different
formats.

Meanwhile if someone wants to read the doc, tough?  What a good decision
that was to encourage people to use it.  I've never ever seen another
library, even in source, where the documentation wasn't supplied in some
human-readable or HTML form.
