We have been testing as hard as we can with our limited resources, and now more than ever we need your help. The harder you can pound on this build, the sooner we can identify and fix any remaining bugs, and the sooner we can release Xalan 1.0.0 -- and start work on Xalan 2!! To download xalan_0_20_0, see http://xml.apache.org/dist/xalan_0_20_0.jar http://xml.apache.org/dist/xalan_0_20_0.jar.sig Xalan 0.20.0 works with Xerces 1.0.2, and the new SAX 2 interface. It is not compatible with Xerces 1.0.1. In an attempt to simplify the API, we have made classes and class members protected or private when we can and when we believe they are required for any external use. In the Javadoc, we have also tagged portions of the public API as **advanced**, **for internal use only**, and **experimental**. For most of your work, you should be able to focus on the untagged classes and class members. Please let us know if we have removed anything that you need access to. Our goal is to make Xalan more usable, not to hide anything or constrain your use of it. Build notes: -- See README in the root. Also open readme.html, which takes you to the User's Guide in the docs directory and the Javadoc. in docs/apidocs. The User's Guide contains "Release Notes," with build notes, a list of open bugs, and a list of recent bug fixes. -- Compiled on WinNT Server 4.0 SP5 with Sun's JDK 1.1.8. The JAR files are built with the Sun jar utility. The doc and Javadoc are built with Stylebook, and JDK 1.2.2 javac and javadoc tools. All builds are done with Makefile. -- The sample applications are in xalansamples.jar. See docs/samples.html for the details. -- Xalan now switches from the DTM (the default, high-speed "pseudo-DOM" parser) to the Xerces DOM parser automatically in those cases where you are reading or writing a DOM Document. -- Sources are tagged 'xalan_0_20_0'. -- Xerces compatibility: this distribution works with the Xerces-J 1.0.2 distribution. -- Thanks to donald_leslie@lotus.com for help with this announcement! ---- ---- - Shane Automation, Test, & Build guy mailto:shane_curcuru@lotus.com AIM:xsltest http://alphaworks.ibm.com/tech/LotusXSL http://xml.apache.org/xalan
