The problem comes from the way you create a Document. This:

> Document doc = db.newDocument ();

isn't part of the DOM.

DOM Level 1 didn't define any way of creating a document. So every DOM
Level 1 implementation had to provide its own way of doing this.
However, DOM Level 2 defines one way to do so, and this is what Xerces
now supports. Hopefully, as people move their implementation to DOM
Level 2, you'll have less trouble in this area.
