You know, its hard to blame the projects here, they create md that
works for them; its only when stuff ships you discover its flaws. We
really need a review of all metadata that goes in; partly automated,
with manual oversight. I imagine a program that has a list of obsolete
artifacts (junit 3.7, logkit, servletapi 2.3), and flags anything that
imports them as trouble. It could also flag any non-optional
dependency on junit/testng at runtime as worthy of attention. Test
tools are allowed to do it, but for most apps, its a mistake.
