The SNAPSHOTs section is the shadow repository you refer to I think (http://cvs.apache.org/repository). As far as I know, MD5s are still what we are putting into the repo as a means of verifying a download, not as a security measure. The latest versions of Maven also generate a sha1 and can deal with both, so if you can generate that too, that'd be great. What makes it look out of date?
