Henri Yandell commented on LEGAL-416:

Oh. That said; it may not belong on apply-license as it's not guidance to Apache developers.
It's a best practice/suggestion for users of the Apache license.

> Remove source header example from Apache 2.0 LICENSE.txt
> --------------------------------------------------------
> Key: LEGAL-416
> URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/LEGAL-416
> Project: Legal Discuss
> Issue Type: Task
> Reporter: Henri Yandell
> Priority: Major
> Proposing that we remove confusion by dropping the source header example from the bottom
of our license (and putting it in a FAQ).
> Today it causes confusion in two ways:
> 1) It's not what Apache themselves use as a source header. I would add Apache's current
style as another example in a FAQ (a source header when you have a CLA).
> 2) Folk often change the example Copyright notice, which turns the Apache 2.0 license
back into an Apache 1.1 style template license.
> Removing it would cause some pain to the user community. I don't expect it to cause legal
dept pain; it's not changing the license. File recognizers would have to learn a new pattern,
but that's normal business.
> We should work with SPDX before doing this so they have thoughts on how to handle it.
