Subject Re: What kind of metrics / telemetry is an Apache project allowed to record?

HI Denis,

I didn't set this up, another committer did, feel free to ask on dev@flex for more details.
I think we have Google Analytics code in the header of our site template so any request causes
GA's ga.js file to be loaded and track that page. No server-side CGI/PHP AFAICT.

HTH,
-Alex

Alex,

Does it mean that you have CGI/PHP/etc. support enabled for this URL [1] on INFRA side?

[1] http://flex.a.o/tracking-installls?status=success&os=windows<https://na01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fflex.a.o%2Ftracking-installls%3Fstatus%3Dsuccess%26os%3Dwindows&data=02%7C01%7C%7Caeaf4127f4244c58b68108d522403fb1%7Cfa7b1b5a7b34438794aed2c178decee1%7C0%7C0%7C636452581697090223&sdata=RbwFNicrh8Q6xys7zBfmgqzU1fO76McbAAFW11Rwo%2F4%3D&reserved=0>

The Flex Installer is a Mac and Windows executable. AIUI, it sends an http request to http://flex.a.o/tracking-installls?status=success&os=windows<https://na01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fflex.a.o%2Ftracking-installls%3Fstatus%3Dsuccess%26os%3Dwindows&data=02%7C01%7C%7Caeaf4127f4244c58b68108d522403fb1%7Cfa7b1b5a7b34438794aed2c178decee1%7C0%7C0%7C636452581697090223&sdata=RbwFNicrh8Q6xys7zBfmgqzU1fO76McbAAFW11Rwo%2F4%3D&reserved=0>
if the install succeeds and a similar URL if an error occurs during the install. As I said
earlier, it isn't perfect. There are other ways to install and setup Flex. But at least
we get some idea.

Anyway, Flex has a user-facing app to help with setup and AFAICT it has
been approved to hit a URL on flex.a.o that is tracked by GA.

Alex,

Is this a dynamic page (CGI, PHP, etc.) that processes the query and triggers GA?

Actually, that’s exactly what we need to do for Ignite. An Ignite process needs to hit a
page on ignite.a.o that do 2 things - reply with the latest Ignite version (hardcoded) and
trigger GA.
