Subject [jira] [Commented] (LEGAL-252) BSD and "BSD-like" licenses
Date Wed, 11 May 2016 23:47:12 GMT

Henri Yandell commented on LEGAL-252:

I would say that the latter is different enough from BSD to warrant being raised.

BSD-like should really only be for times when folk have taken BSD and made innocuous changes;
rather than a phrase meaning 'permissive license'. For example, the first listed license has
OWNER or HOLDER in its no warrant/liability caps section. Close enough methinks.

So if it looks nothing like it, discuss it with your PMC and/or legal-discuss.

I assume you'll want to discuss http://git.mpich.org/mpich.git/blob_plain/HEAD:/COPYRIGHT
- so let's morph this issue into review of that license.

>             Project: Legal Discuss
>          Issue Type: Question
>            Reporter: Andrew Palumbo
>         Attachments: MPICH-BSD-LIKE.txt, MVAPICH2-BSD.TXT
> I'm unclear on whether BSD licenses are allowed in Apache projects. Whats more I'm looking
at some other software that claims to be "BSD-like" licensed (but looks nothing like some
of the licenses described in LEGAL-59 and from the License page on apache.org
> The BSD license is the attached MPVAPICH-BSD.txt and the "BSD-like" is MPICH.txt.
