Shane Curcuru commented on LEGAL-243:

I would wait longer to see how the licensing discussion in Chronicle-queue plays out, especially
considering this comment one of their maintainers made:

The important question for the ASF and Apache projects is: can the users of Apache projects
rely that they can generally redistribute software including Apache software under a license
no more restrictive than the Apache license. That means we need to know that users will be
comfortable taking Apache software and using it, for one example, in a closed source commercial

Legally, if we get something under the Apache License, we can do that, as can our downstream
users. But I'm not sure that's the intent of this package's maintainers.

> The chronicle project switched their licensing to lgpl some time ago. So I reached out
to them if they would consider switching back to Apache license 2. Peter Lawrey responded
that they are interested in usage by Apache so he added a license excemption for open source
> See https://github.com/OpenHFT/Chronicle-Queue/blob/master/LICENSE%20for%20Open%20Source%20product%20usage.txt

> So my question: Is this special licensing acceptable for Apache? Dan Kulp told me that
it might be a field of use restriction that we can not accept.
