Subject [jira] [Created] (LEGAL-243) Can we use the chronicle queue project (license issue)?
Date Fri, 25 Mar 2016 08:12:25 GMT
Christian Schneider created LEGAL-243:
-----------------------------------------

Summary: Can we use the chronicle queue project (license issue)?
                 Key: LEGAL-243
                 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/LEGAL-243
             Project: Legal Discuss
          Issue Type: Question
            Reporter: Christian Schneider

The chronicle project switched their licensing to lgpl some time ago. So I reached out to
them if they would consider switching back to Apache license 2. Peter Lawrey responded that
they are interested in usage by Apache so he added a license excemption for open source projects.
See https://github.com/OpenHFT/Chronicle-Queue/blob/master/LICENSE%20for%20Open%20Source%20product%20usage.txt
and
https://github.com/OpenHFT/Chronicle-Queue/issues/250

So my question: Is this special licensing acceptable for Apache? Dan Kulp told me that it
might be a field of use restriction that we can not accept.
