Christopher Tubbs commented on LEGAL-234:
-----------------------------------------

Thanks. That helps. As for the dates, I'd think it very confusing if a project was marked
2006-2016, then jumped to 2011-2016 if they dropped one Java class which came from an older
ASF project (or even more common: replaced a bunch of older internal code with re-written
newer versions). Tracking the aggregation of these dates would be very difficult if the projects
were named individually, so I'm inclined to think Mark's interpretation is reasonable on that
point as well, pending further guidance.

> In Accumulo, we currently have some contents of the NOTICE file with lines like:
> Apache Accumulo
> Copyright 2011-2016 The Apache Software Foundation
> This product includes the Apache Thrift libthrift JAR file.
> Copyright 2006-2010 The Apache Software Foundation
> I couldn't find clear documentation for these, which essentially amount to duplicate
notices that the software includes ASF-copyrighted code. These aren't "third-party", after
all. In addition, the dates are different, so if these notices should be aggregated in some
way, what dates should be given? The earliest and latest dates?
