Subject [jira] [Commented] (LEGAL-214) Obsolete Third-Party Licensing Policy page still being quoted / used
Date Wed, 07 Jan 2015 09:53:34 GMT

Richard Eckart de Castilho commented on LEGAL-214:

I found the title of the old page (Third-Party Licensing Policy"") more fitting than that
of the new one ("ASF Legal Previously Asked Questions"). When looking for such information,
I'm more inclined to search for something like "apache third-party license" then for "apache
legal questions resolved". The new title implies that the scope of the page is far broader
than licensing issues, but the main content is about licensing with a little of IP, attribution
sprinkled in.

How about breaking the license stuff out and replacing the content of the old page with the
resolved license questions from the new one?

Alternatively, instead of removing the old one, maybe leave some meta-headers for search engines
and make it a redirect to the new one (thus links to the old page do not break). But then
it might also be nice to subsection the new page into areas like "licensing", "IP clearance",
"attribution", etc.

> The Third-Party Licensing Policy [1] has been replaced by ASF Legal Previously Asked
Questions [2].
> However I've twice seen posts recently which rely on it.
> I added some more text to hopefully make it clearer that the page is obsolete.
> Perhaps it is time to consider removing the page?
> Or maybe move the page and leave only a page that has the header info directing users
to the new page.
> I think people tend to ignore the header currently, so if there were only the header
this would be impossible.
