Lawrence Rosen commented on LEGAL-172:
--------------------------------------

@Sam,

You and I are each entitled to our votes. But I won't tolerate your reference to opinions
by lawyers in 2005:

" This policy has been deemed 'acceptable' by multiple lawyers...."

Apache currently has other attorneys besides me. There are other attorneys on this list. They
are free to speak out here and elsewhere after having listened to the arguments here. You
are even authorized to ask specifically for their legal opinions which they can give openly
or under attorney-client privilege. They may agree or disagree with me. But for you to cite
a 2005 opinion by attorneys who haven't been associated with Apache for years, without even
asking those specific attorneys whether they have changed their minds since the early days
of Apache, is outrageous.

No Apache member should believe that's the professional way to protect the legal rights and
obligations of The Apache Software Foundation. Shame on you!

/Larry

> The current ASF Source Header and Copyright Notice Policy does not include, and actively
discourages, any copyright notice in the header:
> Larry Rosen has requested that any source file that contains a license header also include
a copyright notice[1], and that his vote be counted[2]. This JIRA tracks these requests.
> The vote itself will take place on the legal-discuss mailing list, start shortly after
this month's board meeting on Wednesday, July 17th, and will continue through Sunday July
21st with the results published on Monday July 22nd. Only votes from members of the Legal
Affairs Committee PMC, as recorded in [3] will be considered binding. To pass, the vote will
need a minimum of three +1's and more +1's than -1's.
