Craig L Russell commented on LEGAL-157:
---------------------------------------

I'd like to reopen the discussion on including the models in the source. I was not party to
the discussion of SpamAssassin and I don't know whether the discussion there is relevant to
this one.

If I understand correctly, the models are intellectual property that someone constructed via
possibly proprietary means, but the result is a useful input to the cTAKES processor. As such,
it walks like source and quacks like source. So to me, the models can be treated as source
code, put into the source repository, and distributed; subject to the owner of the IP granting
license to use.

> We would like to include with cTAKES machine learning models built from data that is
not publicly available.
> The models are contributed to Apache.
> The corpus of data used to build the models is not contributed to Apache.
> Can we include such models in a convenience binary?
