As far as 'checking in as a revision':

Nothing, absolutely nothing, in the ALv2 imposes any requirement that
should influence how you use your source control system. The license
doesn't care if you check it in as a rev, check it in as something
new, chisel it onto tablets, or tie it onto the legs of carrier
pigeons.

There's nothing wrong with the advice offered by others, but it's very
important to keep in mind that the AL is intended to be clear, and has
no hidden requirements.
