@Sam: Agreed that I'd use "The Meridio Connector" in place of "This software".

I'm obviously not satisfied yet with the (lack of) response I've gotten trying to contact
HP about this issue, so I've opened a third channel of communication in an attempt to find
someone there to talk to.  But if we can resolve the issue more broadly I'd think that would
be of great help to the community as a whole.  It's your call when and how to pursue that
