To clarify, we have one API which we use to talk to Java code, which is native to JRuby.

MRI requires a Java/Ruby bridge which we expose through a JRuby-like API.  The best bridge
we could find is RJB, so that's a necessary dependency if you want to run on MRI and only
for it (Buildr for JRuby is a separate Gem sans the RJB dependency).
