Subject [jira] [Commented] (INFRA-12014) Apache Hadoop CI with PPC architecture
Date Tue, 28 Jun 2016 04:43:57 GMT

Allen Wittenauer commented on INFRA-12014:

The way the Apache Hadoop nightly builds work for Linux/x86 is that Apache Yetus in qbt mode
is executed to fire off Docker with the Dockerfile that ships with Hadoop. This way as new
tools are required by the Apache Hadoop build, we can add those tools to the Dockerfile and
Jenkins will pick them up "for free". This means we don't have to bug INFRA for adding bits
and pieces.

(Before the Mac was taken away, we'd also use Apache Yetus in qbt mode, but we had a whole
bunch of git and homebrew commands to install what we needed in the workspace.)

Right now, though, it looks like Jenkins lost access to the box...

> Project: Infrastructure
> Issue Type: Bug
> Components: Jenkins

> Assignee: Daniel Takamori
> Priority: Critical
> I am opening this JIRA to reduce regressions similar to the issue reported by JIRA https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/HADOOP-11505.

> In a nutshell, HADOOP-11505 was opened to address an issue caused by adding an x86 specific

> performance enhancement feature that broke Hadoop on Power and SPARC architectures.
> To avoid similar issues in future, we would like contribute a PPC architecture build
server to Apache Hadoop CI. As we have successfully done similar contribution to Apache Bigtop
CI in past https://ci.bigtop.apache.org/computer/docker-slave-ppc-1/.
