Chris Lambertus commented on INFRA-11193:
-----------------------------------------

I do not disagree with your analysis, Sebb. I have the cron job you alluded to already running
on whimsy-vm2, and I do see that the connection occasionally fails. What I disagree with is
that it's an infra problem that needs to be addressed. This is not a server-side issue. It
is probably related to the networking between PNAP and OSU, or known issues with the aging
VM hosts that we're actively working to move off of. We have provisioned LDAP with several
servers to fail over for precisely this reason. If tooling exists that cannot handle a failed
query, that is an issue that needs to be addressed in the tooling. There's nothing actionable
here. Let's move on.

> The LDAP server ldaps://ldap2-us-west.apache.org:636 often fails to respond when contacted
by Whimsy.
> Note that the server does usually work OK. However AFAICR it is the only one that has
been reported as failing by Whimsy, so there may be an issue with the server or connectivity
that is worth noting.
