Geoffrey Corey commented on INFRA-10077:
----------------------------------------

Here's the blog post with some details on what the repo needs to look like for it to work:
https://blogs.apache.org/infra/entry/git_based_websites_available

tl;dr:

A git repo with a branch called asf-site containing the raw HTML
A folder structure as follows: $REPO_ROOT/<raw_html> OR $REPO_ROOT/content/<raw_html>
If you choose the content folder option, on the asf-site branch that is the *only* folder
that can be in the root of the repo.

Lastly, for the actual migration:
1. File a JIRA ticket (done)
2. Infra makes changes
3. Infra confirms with you that the git based deployment is ready (so that you aren't without
a website while changing over)
4. Your website is deployed using git.

Do be aware, that git based deployment does not work with CMS.

If you wish to continue, we need the following information:

- repo name
- whether it is an existing or new repo (as well as where to import from if applicable, importing
from svn is an option)
- If it's a new/imported repo, the mailing list you want git commits to go to

Once Infra has all that information, we'll get started on staging the changes and then deploy
them when you are ready.

> I think at INFRA this means, a switch has to be flipped somewhere... If there other specific
documentation on steps needed to migrate from SVN, feel free to let us know and we will follow
along.
