Subject [jira] [Created] (INFRA-9658) Support HTTPS protocol for git.apache.org
Date Fri, 15 May 2015 04:03:01 GMT
Konstantin Shaposhnikov created INFRA-9658:

Summary: Support HTTPS protocol for git.apache.org
                 Key: INFRA-9658
                 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/INFRA-9658
             Project: Infrastructure
          Issue Type: Improvement
            Reporter: Konstantin Shaposhnikov

At the moment Git repositories from git.apache.org are only accessible using Git or HTTP protocols.

HTTPS is not supported. E.g.:

git ls-remote https://git.apache.org/abdera.git
fatal: unable to access 'https://git.apache.org/abdera.git/': Failed connect to
git.apache.org:443; No error

I am trying to make go work with git.apache.org repositories (required by Thrift project -
THRIFT-3131) and go 1.5 could potentially support them if my change request is accepted (https://github.com/golang/go/issues/10797)

However another planned change in go 1.5 is to disable insecure protocols (like HTTP or Git)
by default: https://github.com/golang/go/issues/9637

Making git.apache.org available via HTTPS will allow seamless use of "go get" with Go libraries
from git.apache.org (e.g. Thrift).
