Subject [jira] [Commented] (INFRA-5378) Clarify instructions on running build_site.pl

OK, got it working. The main answers to my questions:

1.) cd /path/to/cms/build/tree refers to precisely the trunk folder (that has an immediate
"content" and "cgi-bin" child folders): in the case of JSPWiki, https://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/incubator/jspwiki/site/trunk/
It is from that folder that "export MARKDOWN_SOCKET=`pwd`/markdown.socket PYTHONPATH=`pwd`"
as given in the guide should be run.
2.) python markdownd.py should be run from the folder where it was originally downloaded (whereever
you checked out this: https://svn.apache.org/repos/infra/websites/cms/build/). As mentioned
in the guide, MARKDOWN_SOCKET and PYTHONPATH need to be defined in the terminal window you're
using for this.
3.) In my ~/.bashrc file, I added the "/media/work1/opensource/jspwikisite/lib" to my PERL5LIB
environment variable (perl -l didn't work for me for some reason, probably didn't get the
syntax right.)
4.) From the cms build folder mentioned in (2) above (not the JSPWikisite code), I ran the
following statement to generate the output in the www folder: gmazza@gmazza-work:/media/work1/opensource/cms$
perl build_site.pl --source-base /media/work1/opensource/jspwikisite --target-base www, and
found the output in the www folder.

Thanks for the help. I'll update the guide soon (probably next weekend). This issue can
be closed now if desired.

> Hi, the instructions on running build_site.pl (http://www.apache.org/dev/cmsref.html#local-build)
could use clarification in a couple of areas. Trying to get it to run on the incubating Apache
JSPWiki website is raising errors for me (Error message: Filter 'markdown' couldn't be found
or an error occurred. The filter has to be in the Dotiac::DTL::Filter namespace -- Can't open
markdown socket: No such file or directory at /media/work1/opensource/cmsBuild/lib/Dotiac/DTL/Addon/markup.pm
line 56.) causing me to doubt some of the assumptions I was making from the instructions.
 Namely the instructions say:
> "Once everything is installed you'll need to run
> $ cd /path/to/cms/build/tree
> $ export MARKDOWN_SOCKET=`pwd`/markdown.socket PYTHONPATH=`pwd`
> $ python markdownd.py"
> Clarification #1: What is the precise "cms/build/tree" location referred to above?
For JSP Wiki (http://svn.apache.org/viewvc/incubator/jspwiki/site/trunk/content/jspwiki/),
for example, is it the "site" folder, the "content" folder, or the "jspwiki" folder?
> Clarification #2: The script above implies I need to copy the markdownd.py script to
the cms/build/tree location (as I'm already in that folder due to the cd statement earlier)
Is that the case? Let us know where we need to run markdownd.py -- can it be from the same
folder where we download it (i.e., where build_site.pl is) or do we have to copy it over to
cms/build/tree prior to running?
> Thanks!
