Tobias Schlitt commented on INFRA-2898:
---------------------------------------

The Zeta project would need such a PEAR channel server for distributing its releases, since
PEAR is the de-facto standard for library distribution in the PHP world.

However, maintaining a PEAR server through Pirum [1] is pretty simple: The Pirum script just
generates a directory structure with static files, so there is no need for special scripts
or a database on the server.

Still, there is one issue: A PEAR channel server needs its own sub-domain to work.

If possible, I'd suggest the following procedure for projects that require a PEAR channel
server:

- Create <project>.pear.apache.org for the channel
- Create a dedicated directory (e.g. <project>/pear) in the projects SVN
- Check out this dir regularly / on commit to the htdocs of the channel domain

Is that possible, even for incubating projects?

Thanks in advance!

a local PEAR repo.
> Looks like Pirum will be good enough for our needs.
