-Xmx512m -XX:MaxPermSize=256m
seems pretty high for me. And some projects like OpenJPA need even more (1GB...)

Maybe we should go for 
-Xmx384m -XX:MaxPermSize=128m
by defaut and if some projects require more mem, then they should explicitly get configured
for it.

(if this is possible with sonar)
