Hi guys!

Just want to say that we've issued the free Apache configuration program
- ApacheConf Lite.
You can download it from our site www.Apache-GUI.com

The PRO version is still commercial but now it costs a few less :)

Hi all,

Thanks for the responses. So should I assume Apache
itself is not interested in the contributions of Designers at the
moment? There is nowhere people who want to contribute
installation-graphics / GUI / promotional material / Branding / Logo /
stationery / web graphics / wallpapers / icons etc. can participate?

Sergey,
thanks for the suggestion and I wish you all the best with your
products, but I'm looking for something Free and Open Source. I was
looking to contribute to Apache itself. I currently contribute to
OpenOffice.org in the same way (some of my work is here: http://overkill.hyperphp.com/ ).
Is this not at all possible? =(

Best regards. Nik. 190709.

Right now we divide our program on two: free Lite version and the
shareware PRO.
Lite version will not allow to work with the several Apache servers and
will not work through FTP/SSH connections with the remote servers.

<div xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">

Folks,

As with most things Linux some terminal commands are required in order to set up the GUI way
of doing things with Apache etc.
For the purposes of this email ubuntu is being used.

First things first. In Ubuntu there is no root user. Most things are done via the sudo command
in a terminal.
The simplest way to get Apache etc up and running and then configured in a GUI manner that
I have come across is as follows:

1. After installing Ubuntu, install a LAMP server in a terminal using:

$sudo tasksel install lamp-server

During this installation you will be prompted to provide a password for the root user of MySQL
which is a good idea (make is obscure using asterisks, %,^ and other symbols and say 10 characters
long).

You can test that Apache works by:

http://localhost

You should see a web page saying "It works".

To test PHP5 is running probably the easiest way is to use the command in a terminal to enable
PHP5, namely:

$sudo a2enmod php5

If PHP5 is running you should get a message back in terminal which says it is already enabled

2. Change the group and owner of the web server directories. This is done in terminal as follows:

$sudo chown user-id /var/www
$sudo chgrp user-id /var/www

where the user-id is the user you log in on the Ubuntu machine. (comment - If you can think
of a better alternative I'd be interested in hearing it).

3. Download phpmyadmin

$sudo apt-get install phpmyadmin

This installs by default into usr/share/ so to make it accessible from your web browser create
a symbolic link in the folder that you keep your site - var/www for this example and likely
to be the same for you if you haven't changed things. In this example the symbolic link has
the name "phpmyadmin" but of course you can call it what you like. Open a terminal and enter;

sudo ln -s /usr/share/phpmyadmin /var/www/phpmyadmin

Now point your web browser to phypmyadmin at http://localhost/phpmyadmin if you are connecting
to it locally.
You now have a web way of administering the MySQL database and can test if it is running by
logging in.

4. Now for the GUI Apache admin side of things. To do this we will now install Webmin which
has a web based interface (also can be used for a lot more than just configuring Apache, e.g.
user accounts, DNS, file sharing etc too):

To prepare your machine you first need to install the following packages:

$sudo aptitude install perl libnet-ssleay-perl openssl libauthen-pam-perl libpam-runtime libio-pty-perl
libmd5-perl

Now download the latest webmin using the following command or from here

wget http://garr.dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/webadmin/webmin_1.480_all.deb

Note Re above URL, check first which is the latest version at: http://www.webmin.com/download.html

Next install this package using the following command

$sudo dpkg -i webmin_1.480_all.deb

This will complete the installation.

As mentioned earlier Ubuntu doesn't allow logins by the root user by default. However, the
user created at system installation time can use the sudo commands to effectively switch to
root. Webmin will allow any user who has this sudo capability to login with full root privileges.

Now you need to open your web browser and enter the following

https://localhost:10000/ if connecting to it locally.

When doing the above, you may at some point see a message saying "Could not reliably determine
the server's fully qualified domain name". That's because DNS hasn't been configured. You
can do that from within webmin, however I am yet to find the best way to do that with the
machine being on my LAN and still be able to make it available over the real Internet without
needing to register a website name with a DNS registrar. In the meantime, using the IP address
to access things works just fine. However, it should be mentioned that while the LAMP server
installs with certain defaults configured it probably isn't a fully secure locked down installation,
so that will also need to be looked at, in particular regarding the Apache web server. I have
my machine sitting behind a router which is a start.

Regards,

Tony

On Windows Vista, the httpd 2.2.8 ApacheMonitor.exe process is running, but
no icon appears in the system tray. Was working in the 2.2.4 version (the
last one I had installed). I installed from a win32 binary. Is this
something I can fix via configuration?

I'd like to run a Web Hosting service for myself... that is, I've loaded
Apache2 and I can view my stuff via localhost...
        I'm using no-ip, and I can't view my site at http://danix.no-ip.info/
when my IIS computer is plugged in... I don't know why... when I try to
check it out, the page that pops up is the one loaded in my Windows XP Pro
computer (IIS)...
I'd love to be able to use Mozilla to view my website, find a typo or
something similar, and switch to composer or frontpage, make the changes,
click save, and be done... but, I have never been able to edit pages
through no-ip... and I'm not certain why...
also, when I want to test the setup on the Debian-Sarge computer,
I simply swap the last octet of the IP which effectively changes the
computers that the router is forwarding the port to... and when I pick the
Debian-Sarge computer it gives me 'The page cannot be found'...
        Bottom Line:
        1. IIS (mcgrew.no-ip.info) - Port Forwarding - Works
        2. Apache (danix.no-ip.info) - Port Forwarding - Delivers
what is on the IIS machine until the LAN cord is unplugged from
the IIS machine... then, It stops working
I don't understand why...
is the address I'm using wrong??? that is, should it be
something else, like;
        http://danix.no-ip.info/Apache2-default/ (doesn't work)...
or ...
        http://danix.no-ip.info/Apache2-default/index.html.en
(doesn't work)???

Should all my files be loaded into the Apache2-default
directory or the www directory???
I would really, really like to be able to log into my
Apache2 server and upload/download/edit pages... I just don't know how to
get that to work... I've downloaded no-ip and installed it... I'm not
certain how to test it to see if it's working...
I will appreciate any help that anyone can render...
                        Most sincerely,

From:Madam Rita Mosley
4 Old Church Street,
Chelsea, SW3,
England.

Here writes Madam Rita Mosley suffering from cancerous ailment. I was married
to Sir David Mosley an Englishman who is dead. My husband was into private
practice all his life before his death. Our life together as man and wife
lasted for three decades without child. My husband died after a protracted
illness. My husband and I made a vow to uplift the down-trodden and the less-
privileged individuals as he had passion for persons who can not help
themselves due to physical disability or financial predicament.

I can adduce this to the fact that he needed a Child from this relationship,
which never came.

When my late husband was alive he deposited the sum of Twenty Million Pounds
(20,000,000.00 Million Great Britain Pounds Sterling)which were derived from
his vast estates and investment in capital market with his bank here in UK.
Presently, this money is still with the Bank. Recently, my Doctor told me that
I have limited days to live due to the cancerous problems I am suffering from.

Though what bothers me most is the stroke that I have in addition to the
cancer. With this hard reality that has befallen my family, and me I have
decided to donate this fund to you and want you to use this gift which comes
from my husbands effort to fund the upkeep of widows, widowers, orphans,
destitute, the down-trodden, physically challenged children, barren-women and
persons who prove to be genuinely handicapped financially.

I took this decision because I do not have any child that will inherit this
money and my husband relatives are bourgeois and very wealthy persons and I do
not want my husband hard earned money to be misused or invested into ill
perceived ventures. I do not want this money to be misused hence the reason for
taking this bold decision. I am not afraid of death hence I know where I am
going. I do not need any telephone communication in this regard due to my
deteriorating health and because of the presence of my husband relatives around
me. I do not want them to know about this development.

As soon as I receive your reply I shall give you the contact of the bank in UK.
I will also issue you a Letter of Authority that will empower you as the
original beneficiary of this fund. My happiness is that I lived a life worthy
of emulation. Please assure me that you will act just as I have stated herein.
Hope to hear from you soon.

You are STRONGLY advised to contact me thr
ough my personal email address:madammosleyrita_04@yahoo.co.uk

Completely rewritten GUI, in Delphi this time.
Lower RAM usage. Now the GUI is way more userfriendly.
There is also a new editor with hightlighting support. A
password-manager is available. Frontend for logresolver and so many
more usefull stuff.
New is also a help-file with lots of screenshots.

Hi!

I'm some kind of newbie using the Apache webserver, and I'm a little bit
surprised with the fact that, Apache, the greatest webserver in da
world, doesn't have any popular-or-standard GUI.

I visited the page of the GUI projects at http://gui.apache.org/, and i
didn't find any complete GUI for apache. Also, some of the projects are
out-of-date, and I wish to know wich one of the projects is the more
often used (or updated), and what can I do to increase this effort.

I really want to help, but it depends of the project/programming
language, and the commitment of the community.

Thanks for reading!

Looking fro testers for ApacheMon(an Apache GUI for windows)

Hello,
I'm just finished a new version of apachemon(a gui for windows)
And i'm looking for some testers (with some experience with apache on
windows, and preferably with a small home network)

If you are interested, replay to this msg please.

ApacheMon v3 feature list:
-stop/start/restart apache
-syntax check your config
-genereate and manage apache password files
-run the apache benchmark
-option to start stop apache from a computer in the same network
