Subject RVM on the ubuntu Jenkis nodes?
Date Sun, 23 Sep 2012 21:10:54 GMT
Hi,

As part of the buildr project we have been using RVM * for our builds on
the jenkins slaves. However back when it was initially set up we bound our
linux builds to ubuntu2 because we had to had install several products to
get it working but overtime our only remaining dependency is RVM. I would
like to let them run on any ubuntu node but that means we need RVM present
on each slave.

So what is the preferred way of going about this? The simplest way would be
to check if RVM is installed and if not then install it as part of the
build process. (It gets installed locally into the account). The other
option is to get it promoted as part of the blessed build infrastructure.
This is a little more work but it gives other projects visibility into it.

Thoughts?

* RVM is the ruby version manager (https://rvm.io/rvm/install/) that allows
you to manage different ruby virtual machines and different gemsets (a.k.a.
library sets).
