Linux jawc.res.lehigh.edu 2.2.12-20 #4 Wed Oct 6 01:52:47 EDT 1999 i686 unknown
gcc: egcs-2.91.66
Linux Redhat 6.0 Custom
All levels of make fail on compiler error: -rdist unknown option.
Temporary fix: replaced all instances of -rdist with -L in every Makefile in
source tree and compiled Apache successfully.

Try compiling Apache 1.3.9 on a RedHat 6.0/1 system.
Have configure recognized gcc version and change Makefiles appropriately.
