 >From the apache_1.3.1  directory:

      $ ./configure --prefix=PREFIX
      $ make
      $ make install
      $ PREFIX/sbin/apachectl start
 
 
 All I did was the
 
 cedvl101:ccgont->apache_1.3.1:./configure --prefix=/usr/local/apache

 The Makefile in the top level is blank
