I understand your reasoning; I guess my customer-service background was cringing at the implied "we don't care about your bug report" in the message, but then again they aren't paying us :) so asking them to do a little more work to let us know if the bug is still current might not be bad I guess. Maybe the default text could be modified a bit, but I don't have any suggestions right now.
