 Maybe something is going wrong with timeouts, keepalive timeouts in
 particular.  Try this:
 
 telnet www.foo.com 80
 GET / HTTP/1.0
 Connection: keep-alive
 
 
 (that's an extra blank line in there after the keep-alive header, you have
 to hit return twice) 
 
 And then sit there in the telnet session after the response and it should
 close approximately 15 seconds later.  If it doesn't then we've found the
 problem. 
 
 In that case you want to get some straces... of the parent and some of the
 children.  Preferably of children that seem to be blocked waiting forever. 
 Use "strace -p <pid>".
