At the time I did my own migration to Velocity, I -did- look at Velocity Tools, but for various reasons decided to write my own integration code. Mainly for reasons previously stated, but there were other issues I noted at the time but have now forgotten... I need to document more! I have to say I disagree with Tim's assessment of "don't do things this way". From a Purest point-of-view it might be wrong, but personal experience suggests the Purest approach often doesn't work in the Enterprise -- I'm not trying to teach a grandmother to suck eggs or anything, but one size does not fit all. ;-) I should think the important thing is getting people using Velocity (i.e. migrating away from JSPs), and pointing out that it's a hell of lot easier to hack around with it if necessary. That said, I should have noted in the article that VelocityTools provided a lot of the code I wrote from scratch. I blame an early onset of senility due to lack of sleep brought on by a one-year-old in the house.
