Hi,

Regarding where the auto-deploy flag lives,

Check your $CATALINA_HOME/conf/server.xml file

You should see something like

 <Host name="localhost"  appBase="webapps"
            unpackWARs="true" autoDeploy="true">

You can toggle the values and try deploying from the manager to see if it
works for you.

Check it out to see if that helps.
