Typically it's too late at that point.  You might want to try these command line options to
see what's happening to the heap (assuming that heap exhaustion is a factor):

-Xloggc:<filename>
-XX:+PrintGCDetails

You can also use these to capture the heap if and when an OOME occurs:

-XX:HeapDumpPath=<filename>
-XX:+HeapDumpOnOutOfMemoryError
