I'm aware of that. The reason I went with such an old version of Spring is that Axis2 POJO
Spring example uses that version of Spring (1.2.8).
The applicationContext.xml uses the DOCROOT element, not XML name spaces, not XML namespaces,
so I did not want to vary too many things at the same time.

So Spring 3.1 is now out and the internetz says that Spring 1.2.8 was released 8 May 2006.
 Is this a production system, might I ask?
