Add in validationQuery and testOnBorrow as seen below

     name="jdbc/TheName"
     password="password"
     removeAbandoned="true"
     removeAbandonedTimeout="60"

     url="jdbc:mysql://localhost:3306/schema"
     username="user"
     testOnBorrow="true"
     validationQuery="SELECT 1"/>
