Mark, Thanks for the prompt reply, After lots of surfing the next I had
tried adjusting
c:/tomcat/conf/catalina/localhost/vendoraDocs.xml as follows:-

<servlet>
  <servlet-name>VendorAlistings</servlet-name>
  <servlet-class>org.apache.catalina.servlets.DefaultServlet
</servlet-class>
  <init-param>
    <param-name>listings</param-name>
    <param-value>false</param-value>
    </init-param>
  <load-on-startup>1</load-on-startup>
  </<servlet>

<servlet-mapping>
  <servlet-name>VendorAlistings</servlet-name>
  <url-pattern>/</url-pattern>
  </servlet-mapping>

<Context docBase="D:\vendora\Docs">
  </Context>

But tomcat just ignored the context.
