Try something like this:

#!/bin/sh

while(1) ; do
  strace -o /logs/strace.log java ...
  mv /logs/strace.log /logs/strace.log.`date '+%Y-%m-%d:%H:%M:%S'`
done

This should preserve your logs across restarts.

Well, switching to IBM  may fix your problem, but I think we're all very
interested in what you find. If you're willing to continue, we're
willing to keep reading.
