You should move up, just on general principles - as well as for the bunch of fixes that have
gone in over the last two years.

Yes, but it's not documented, so test it carefully.  You can nest a <Loader> element
inside your <Context> that specifies an alternate classloader:
http://tomcat.apache.org/tomcat-6.0-doc/config/loader.html

Set the value of the className attribute to "org.apache.catalina.loader.VirtualWebappLoader".
 Use the virtualClasspath attribute to specify a semicolon-separated list of the additional
files or directories you want added to the WebappClassLoader classpath.
