put the app into another folder, alongside the ROOT one.

webapps/ROOT/        maps to -> www.appName.com/
webapps/version1/    maps to -> www.appName.com/version1
webapps/version2/    maps to -> www.appName.com/version2
webapps/version3/    maps to -> www.appName.com/version3


how easy do you need development to be?
