Chris, I think in this case it did, because he was getting a message about Oracle already running
at port 8080, and his Tomcat install previously ran at the same port.

So therefore, after his Oracle install, he couldn't run TC any longer. I assume Oracle XE
was running on startup, and he started TC manually.

You posted the same question the other day. This probably has nothing to
do with Oracle. Make sure that you are always using the same server.xml
file, and that the "shutdown port" has been properly set on your
<Server> element.

Also, make sure that Tomcat is actually running.
