However, it isn't=20 completely successful. I think the problem has=20 something to do with tomcat running as a service. =20 Details follow:=20 Here are the applicable knowledge base articles for=20 adding or removing uninstallers to the=20 Windows Control Panel Add or Remove Programs.=20 Windows XP http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314481 Windows 2000 Server (seems to be the same reg keys) http://support.microsoft.com/kb/247501=20 I added three registry keys in=20 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\A pache Tomcat 4.1=20 (Default) (value not set)=20 DisplayName Apache Tomcat 4.1 (remove only)=20 UninstallString After adding these registry keys, Apache Tomcat appeared=20 in the Windows Control Panel Add or Remove Programs list. =20 Choosing it did run the tomcat uninstaller, but it was=20 not really successful in uninstalling tomcat. =20 =20 The uninstaller could not remove the tomcat root directory,=20 and left about half the subdirectories inside. It did remove=20 the files in the tomcat root directory, including the=20 uninstaller, though. :-( After the uninstall finished, the=20 tomcat service was still running.=20 Stopping the tomcat service and deleting the tomcat directory=20 by hand did not finish the job. After rebooting, the tomcat=20 service was still running. I had to reinstall tomcat (making=20 sure to install it as a service) and then uninstall it by=20 double-clicking the uninstaller exe.=20 I wonder if this has something to do with the fact that I=20 don't install tomcat as a service? After tomcat has been=20 installed, our installer runs the tomcat.exe (Alexandria=20 Software Consulting) to make it into a service. =20 If this sounds plausible, can you tell me how the tomcat=20 uninstaller knows that tomcat is running as a service, and=20 what it does to deal with that? Perhaps I can still fix=20 this up myself. =20 Thanks,=20 Eric=20 -----Original Message----- From: Mark Thomas [mailto:markt@apache.org]=20 Sent: Wednesday, August 02, 2006 8:34 PM To: Tomcat Users List Subject: Re: Silent install of tomcat 4.1.31 on windows fails ehawkes@sonicwall.com wrote: > Hi,=20 >=20 > Thanks for the confirmation. I don't have any plans for a 4.1.33 release at the moment. When I get around to calling the stability vote for 4.1.32 I don't as yet see any reason for it not to be stable. Others may, of course, have other views - that is why we vote ;) Mark --------------------------------------------------------------------- To start a new topic, e-mail: users@tomcat.apache.org To unsubscribe, e-mail: users-unsubscribe@tomcat.apache.org For additional commands, e-mail: users-help@tomcat.apache.org --------------------------------------------------------------------- To start a new topic, e-mail: users@tomcat.apache.org To unsubscribe, e-mail: users-unsubscribe@tomcat.apache.org For additional commands, e-mail: users-help@tomcat.apache.org
