I pretty much agree with that ;-).

This is fixed in the commons-daemon SVN, so if you want a semi-official fix, 
grab Makefile.in from there and re-run 'configure'.

However, it's probably quicker to just edit Makefile and
s/make -C native all/(cd native; make all)/
