You can stick this code in somewhere:

		Runtime r = Runtime.getRuntime();
		
		System.out.println("Free Memory: " + r.freeMemory());
		System.out.println("Total Memory: " + r.totalMemory());

If your settings are taking effect you will see the results accordingly.
