You don't want to use the 'set' statement in catalina.sh.


Here's an exerpt from mine:

 #
 # $Id: catalina.sh,v 1.13.2.2 2004/11/17 20:06:34 yoavs Exp $

#-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

 JAVA_OPTS="-Xms128m -Xmx128m"




Then just go to the HTML Manger and click "Server Status" to verify that
it took.
