yes it is there..... the syntax which I am following is :

<!DOCTYPE log4j:configuration SYSTEM "log4j.dtd">

<log4j:configuration debug="true"
xmlns:log4j="http://jakarta.apache.org/log4j/">
....
</log4j:configuration>
I am surprised why it won't work.....

Do you have a log4j.xml file in your webapp ??

Did you follow the syntax :

<log4j:configuration debug="true"
xmlns:log4j="http://jakarta.apache.org/log4j/">
...
</log4j:configuration>
